Enjoy listening to poetry – or share some writing of your own – with Poetry in the Boro! Our features will be poets Sherry Paige and Ashley Trabue. Our hosts will be Amie Whittemore, with Gregory Lannom for the open mic hour. Heads up that this event is on a Thursday, not a Sunday!
We’ll be outdoors, weather permitting, at Murfreesboro Little Theatre, 702 Ewing Blvd – so bring a chair or blanket. But come along even if it’s rainy, as we’ll go inside if need be. Doors open at 6:30 and the features go on at 7:00, with open mic following.
This event is free and open to the public, thanks to support from MTSU Write.
SHERRY PAIGE is a Columbia, Tennessee, native and Vanderbilt graduate whose chapbook To Find a Stone was recently released by Finishing Line Press. Her career spans the creative arts in composing, writing, and producing music, film/video, and theater. Her musical theater
composition, No Small Miracle, was the runner-up to the first Michael Stewart Award. Sherry recorded a solo album, The Piano Project, as she rebuilt her home, life and music following from the Nashville Flood of 2010.
ASHLEY TRABUE is an artist, poet, and author of the chapbook Vertabrae from Dancing Girl Press. Her poetry has appeared in Nashville Review, Hobart, Rockvale Review, and elsewhere. Her artwork has appeared in juried exhibitions, literary magazines, local brand campaigns, on
the runway, and is held in private collections around the world. You can follow along with her work online at ashleytrabue.com or on Instagram @ashleytrabue.
Doors open at 6:30 PM. After the features, there’s time to mingle and purchase books before our open mic time begins. Readers can share one piece of poetry, spoken word, or even short short prose.
We’ll especially cheer for poems that include one or more of this month’s challenge words, which were determined by our most recent audience:
expose | gratuitous | exhaustion | fire | corn | tulip | love | fight | numerical | serenade
The hosting location, Murfreesboro Little Theatre, has its own parking lot. Parking on the street in the area is fine, too – just don’t block any driveways. Remember that there is ongoing construction in Murfreesboro in parts of downtown and near MTSU, so if you travel through those areas, you may want to allow a little extra time.
