Poetry in the Boro is partnering with the Bloom Stage to present another multi-genre show of storytelling, poetry, music and art. “Dog Days: Wagging our Tongues at Summer’s End, School’s Begin, Furry Friends and More,” will feature stories by Robert Chambers, Diana Hague, Kara Jill Kemp, Dana Malone, and Tony Woodall, poetry and storytelling by Kory Wells, music by singer-songwriter Kelsey Keith and vocalist Matthew Wells, and art by Lynn Anthony and Gregory Lannom.
“We’re looking forward to hearing stories about dogs, bears, possums, bad ideas, backyard summer days, and more” said organizer Kara Kemp. “Our tellers often have the audience alternating between laughter and tears, with some poignant moments in between.”
Poetry in the Boro regulars will recognize Kemp, Lannom, Woodall and Wells from PitB events. Malone has also been a featured poet for the monthly reading series.
The show will be Thursday, August 22, 2019 at the Walnut House. Doors open at 6:30 pm and the show starts at 7:00. General admission tickets are $10; students and seniors (age 65+) are $5. Reservations are recommended by emailing karajkemp@gmail.com. Pay at the door. All reservations are released 10 minutes prior to show time.
In addition to the scheduled storytellers, two open mic slots are available at this event. Those interested in an open mic slot should prepare 5 minutes on the theme of the dog days of summer. This might include back to school; harvest; or actual dogs, cats or other pets. Since the term “dog days” goes back to Greek and Roman times, stories might also relate to mythology, the solar system, or Sirius, the brightest star in the sky.
The Bloom Stage offers quarterly events that bring a blend of storytelling, poetry, music, and art to the Murfreesboro stage. The series is produced by storyteller and personal coach Kara Kemp with assistance from poet and writer Kory Wells.
