Happy summer, everyone! We are taking off the month of June and plan to resume our reading and open mic events in July. Most likely we’ll meet the 2nd Sunday evening of July at an outdoor venue, but this is not yet confirmed, so watch our website for more info. In the meantime, don’t forget that we’re wanting you to send us your best poems and photos for our 2022 wall calendar. The submission deadline is July 1! Get all the details here.
Other local poetry and writing options in June include:
- Friday, June 4 – Smyrna Depot District Poetry Slam as well as a Young Author event
- Thursday, June 17 – Juneteenth Author’s Night at Bradley Academy Museum supporting African American authors in Rutherford County. (Poetry in the Boro’s Kory Wells and Nick Bush are helping host this evening.)
- Saturday, June 19 – Juneteenth at Bradley Academy Museum – this outdoor celebration will include music, dance and poetry performances all day. We’ll share more about the line-up soon, but you’re sure to see some faces you know from PitB!
Also, if you want to get a jump on the July word challenge, here are the words chosen by the audience at our last gathering. Write a piece that uses one, some, or all of these words, in any form:
pepper | mask | flame | waterfall | deliver | locust | fireworks | career | parachute | falsify
I would like to come in July for open mic readings. I started writing a few months ago and I would love to read my poems to someone. Also it would be interesting to see what other local poetry is going on on Murfreesboro.
See ya’ll then
