Enjoy listening to poetry and spoken word—or share some writing of your own—with Poetry in the Boro on Sunday, September 26.
An hour of open mic follows the feature. We’ll be outdoors at Old Fort Park, Pavilion 3, which is located between Kids Castle and the tennis courts on Golf Ln. Google-map the “Old Fort Park Trailhead” for the best location. Park between the tennis courts and the pavilion, or in the lots just across Golf Ln. The pavilion has a ramp for accessibility. “Doors” open at 6:00 PM. After the feature, there’s time to mingle before our open mic time begins. Readers can share poetry or spoken word: 2 pieces or 4 minutes, whichever comes first. Reading a favorite poem by another writer is fine, too.
Sign up here for the open mic (you can sign up in person, too, time permitting).
ABOUT OUR FEATURE
Christine Hall was raised in a trailer at the edge of the Adirondacks by troubadours and cultist pornographers. Inculcated with American mythology—tool girl calendars, bible stories, science fiction—she built on this education while hitching across the continent. Now at home in the Nashville arts community, Christine organizes and hosts the Poetry in the Brew open mic. Her work has appeared in Out & About Nashville, several anthologies including Sinew (April Gloaming Publishing, 2021), Be About It zine, on MTA buses, and on stages with the Yoni Pearl Monologues, Cabaret Noir Collective, TSU, Third Man Records, and OZ Arts.
COVID-19 PRECAUTIONS
We ask that you help us protect the most vulnerable in our community by doing the following:
- Be vaccinated!
- If you’re not vaccinated, please wear a mask.
- Keep your distance: while we all miss hugs, we want to be extra cautious with the Delta variant, so please ask if it’s okay before hugging someone (a good habit anyway!)
WHAT TO BRING
There are plenty of benches, but bring your own chair if you prefer. Definitely bring water or your favorite soft beverage. Bring your dinner with you, if you care to. Glass containers and alcohol are not permitted in the park.
CHALLENGE WORDS
If you like, write a piece to share that includes one, some, or all of the following words chosen by our audience last time:
levitate | Lucifer | lubricious | lateral | bounce | pigeonhole | heal | lavender | speak | airplane
