Enjoy listening to poetry and spoken word—or share some writing of your own—with a special edition of Poetry in the Boro on Sunday March 13. We’re excited to be partnering with Southern Word for a “friendraiser” in support of Write with Pride, a project to create writing and sharing spaces for LGBT+ teens in Tennessee that was launched in partnership with the Poet Laureate of Murfreesboro and the Academy of American Poets. Other sponsors of this event include Bridgestone’s BPROUD and BBOLD and Chuy’s Tex-Mex.
ABOUT OUR FEATURE
Our feature will be “our own” HIL HOOVER, who many of you know as a regular at our open mic. Hil writes poetry, flash fiction, love letters to strangers, tabletop character sheets, and clumsy bootprints all over Middle Tennessee. Bios, they say, not so much. They are nonbinary, geeky, and in love with words, trees, and chili chocolate.
EVENT DETAILS
We will be UPSTAIRS at the Walnut House, 116 N. Walnut St. in downtown Murfreesboro.
Doors open at 5:30 PM for mingling and munching (thanks to Chuy’s Tex-Mex!) After a program at 6:00, including Hil’s reading, it’ll be your turn!
Readers can share poetry or spoken word: 2 pieces or 4 minutes, whichever comes first. Reading a favorite poem by another writer is fine, too.

VENUE ACCESSIBILITY & PARKING
There is plenty of street parking in the area (no time limits on weekends) and also a nearby parking garage. Attendees will have to go up and down stairs; if you need ramp access, it can be arranged, but please let us know ahead of time.
