Join us to listen to some poetry—or share some writing of your own—at Poetry in the Boro as we help MTSU Write kick-off their fall Truth or Dare conference in a special event on Friday evening, 9/23.
It’s not too late to sign up for the Saturday conference! There’s something for writers of all genres. Learn more about how and why to register!
We’ll be meeting at the Oaklands Park Pavilion, 427 Roberts St., in downtown Murfreesboro. This is very near Oaklands Mansion (where we’ve met before), but has its own parking lot accessible from Roberts St.
ABOUT THE OPEN MIC
Doors open for mingling at 6:30 PM and the features will be on at 7:00, with open mic to follow. Our features will be conference presenter Christian Collier and visiting writer Lynne Lampe. Learn more about these writers below.
Due to our format for this event, open mic slots will be slightly more limited than usual. Open mic readers can share poetry or spoken word: 1 poem or THREE minutes, whichever comes first. Reading a favorite poem by another writer is fine, too.
We ask that readers be prepared to keep their pieces “PG-13” depending on our venue and audience, which sometimes includes younger people.
CHALLENGE WORDS
Here are our challenge words, chosen by last month’s audience. If you like, write a new piece to share that includes one, some, or ALL of these words:
warble | scream | perforate | fervent | gravitas | desire | money | ruminate | earring | Atlanta
