Join us to listen to some poetry—or share some writing of your own—at Poetry in the Boro on Sunday evening, June 4. We’ll be welcoming feature Angel Hu, the new Tennessee Youth Poet Laureate–who happens to be from Murfreesboro! Thanks to the Rutherford Arts Alliance and MTSU Write for co-sponsoring this event!
EVENT DETAILS
We’ll be outdoors at the Old Fort Park Pavilion, which is located between Kids Castle and the tennis courts on Golf Ln. Google-map the “Old Fort Park Trailhead” for the most accurate location. Park between the tennis courts and the pavilion, or in the lots just across Golf Ln. The pavilion has a ramp for accessibility. “Doors” open at 5:30 PM. We’ll have a few munchies, but feel free to bring your own snacks or dinner! After the feature, there’s time to mingle before our open mic time begins.
IN THE EVENT OF EXTREME WEATHER, CHECK OUR SOCIAL MEDIA ACCOUNTS (@poetryintheboro on Facebook or Instagram, or our Milkshake site at msha.ke/poetryintheboro) for the latest information before you come.
ABOUT THE OPEN MIC
Readers can share poetry or spoken word: 2 pieces or 4 minutes, whichever comes first. Reading a favorite poem by another writer is fine, too. Signs up for the open mic will occur on site.
All styles of poetry and spoken word are welcome. Because we’ll be in a public venue this time, please plan to keep your pieces “PG-13.”
CHALLENGE WORDS
Here are our challenge words, chosen by last month’s audience. If you like, write a new piece to share that includes one, some, or ALL of these words:
sugar | begonia | conglomerate | magnolia | spontaneity | crunch | swig | charge | wriggle | bifurcate
WHAT TO BRING / WHAT NOT TO BRING
There are plenty of benches, but bring your own chair if you prefer. Definitely bring water or your favorite soft beverage. We’ll have a few munchies, but bring your own snacks or dinner, if you care to. Glass containers and alcohol are not permitted in the park.
