Poetry in the Boro is partnering with MTSU Write to host a Conversation on Creativity with Poets Laureate Mike James (Murfreesboro 2023), Margaret Britton “Maggie” Vaughn (Tennessee), and Kory Wells (Murfreesboro 2017-2019) on Thursday, July 13th, at 6:30pm in the Academic Classroom Building, Room 106, on the MTSU campus.
We’ll kick things off with an open mic at 6:30pm, with the conversation to follow at 7:30pm. Light refreshments will be served.
This is a ticketed event, with all sales/donations to benefit MTSU Write scholarships.
Help us plan by reserving your ticket here: https://secure.touchnet.com/C20134_ustores/web/product_detail.jsp?PRODUCTID=1480
If you can’t reserve ahead of time or swing the $15 ticket price, no worries. Tickets will also be available at the door, and any donation amount will be welcome!
ABOUT THE OPEN MIC
Readers can share poetry, prose, or spoken word: 2 pieces or 4 minutes, whichever comes first. Reading a favorite poem by another writer is fine, too. Signs up for the open mic will occur on site.
All styles of poetry and spoken word are welcome. Because this is not an exclusively adult event, please plan to keep your pieces “PG-13.”
CHALLENGE WORDS
Here are our challenge words, chosen by last month’s audience. If you like, write a new piece to share that includes one, some, or ALL of these words:
luxuriate | swelter | breathe | homogeneous | ubiquitous | mentor | taco | chicken | twist | suit
ABOUT THE VENUE AND PARKING
This event will be held in Room 106 of the Academic Classroom Building (ACB) on the MTSU campus. There are numerous ways onto campus, but approaching from Greenland Drive to Blue Raider Drive, then to the “Academic Lot,” as indicated on this map, may be easiest. There is plenty of parking, and no permit is required at the time we’ll be there.
LOOKING AHEAD
Our next event will be another joint venture of sorts, when we host a bag brown lunch and open mic ahead of Murfreesboro Poet Laureate Mike James’ August 5 poetry workshop! We’ll have more on our website closer to the date, but learn more and register now here on the Rutherford Arts Alliance site.
