April is National Poetry Month, but we seem to be celebrating in March! Please mark you calendars and plan to come out to as many of these events as you can–two of them support young people’s voices, and all are collaborations with various groups. We will have more details and links for each posted soon!

A Pie & Poetry Fundraiser at the Blackman High School Library will benefit the Murfreesboro Rescue Mission. Performances include Blackman high poets, Poetry in the Boro cameos, and a special guest! $10 admission, but if you want to come and cannot afford that, please send us an email for a sponsored ticket.
Thursday, March 14, doors open at 6:30 PM, show at 7:00
The Bloom Stage presents Spinning Home, a multi-genre storytelling show at the Walnut House. This show’s theme is Women Weaving Words of Wit and Wisdom from Homespun to Highfaluting. Come experience live storytelling, music, art, poetry, and more. A $10 donation at the door is appreciated, but no one will be turned away. More info on Facebook

The Rutherford County Poetry Slam presented by Southern Word invites middle Tennessee poets ages 14-19 to compete. Poetry in the Boro is a co-sponsor of this event at the Walnut House, and we urge you to come out and cheer for these young voices! The region’s top youth poets, emcees, and spoken word artists compete for their personal growth, a more powerful young writer community, top lyrical honors, the opportunity to appear at the Tennessee Slam Finals, and a chance to participate in the national teen slam in Washington, D.C. this July. Poetry in the Boro and SHIFT, the literary journal of MTSU Write, are partnering for an issue release party and open mic. This event will be held at the Maney Hall event center of Oaklands Mansion, 900 N. Maney Ave. in downtown Murfreesboro. As you approach the mansion, the event center and its parking is to the left.
