Our features will be acclaimed poet and novelist Darnell Arnoult, who is also the conference keynote, and creative leader, writer, and publishing consultant Mytecia Myles, who is also a conference presenter.
The link above should work for Darnell’s keynote on Saturday, beginning at approximately 1:00 pm CST. We advise connecting early since that time is approximate in the overall lunch session. Announcements and program readings begin at 12:15.
This event is free and open to the public. Donations are encouraged to help with our expenses.
Doors open at 6:00 pm for a 6:30 program; refreshments will be available. We know Friday evening traffic can be challenging sometimes, so sneak in late if you need to!
Registration for MTSU Write fall conference is still open. There’s even an option for “lunch and learn,” if you can only attend the keynote!
Entitled “Light & Shadow,” the conference will feature classes and presentations that will invite you to write both toward the joyful and challenging parts of life. This year’s conference will take place Friday, September 27 (virtual) and Saturday, September 28 (on MTSU’s campus).

About the open mic
Open mic readers can share poetry or spoken word: 2 very short poems or three minutes for this special edition, whichever comes first. Reading a favorite poem by another writer is fine, too. Sign up for the open mic on site. We appreciate you helping us hear from many voices!
We also ask that readers be prepared to keep their pieces “PG-13” depending on our venue and audience, which sometimes includes younger people.
The Dapper Owl coffee pub is located at 2412 East Main St. just past its intersection with Rutherford Blvd., on the east side of the MTSU campus.
Challenge words
Here are our challenge words chosen by our community at our last gathering. If you like, write a new piece to share that includes one, some, or ALL of these words:
cascade | jump | black | effervescence | rhododendron | snail | horse | shenanigans | Pittsburgh | pickle
