Join Poetry in the Boro in helping kick off MTSU Write’s Fall Writing Conference at a free reading and all-genre open mic on Friday evening, November 7, at 6:00 PM Central time.
Registration for MTSU Write fall conference is still open. There’s even an option for “lunch and learn,” if you can only attend the keynote with award-winning author Ruta Sepetys!
Entitled “Weaving Hope,” the conference will feature classes and presentations that will invite you to write both toward the joyful and challenging parts of life. This year’s conference takes place Friday, November 7 (virtual) and Saturday, November 8 (on MTSU’s campus).

About our features
We’re looking forward to poetry and prose excerpts from several of our Saturday workshop leaders, including Matthew Brown, Angela Hamilton, Mary Leoson, Cam Mitchell, Shan Overton, and Kathy Rhodes.
About the open mic
For this edition of our open mic, we invite you to share poetry, spoken word, or flash prose or a prose excerpt, up to 3 minutes. We especially invite you to share work that leans into–or against–the idea of hope. Reading a favorite poem by another writer is fine, too. Sign up for the open mic through the chat. We appreciate you helping us hear from many voices!
We ask that readers be prepared to keep their pieces “PG-13” depending on our venue and audience, which sometimes includes younger people.
Your donations are appreciated
ADMISSION IS FREE. A DONATION of $5 is suggested to help us offset our costs. You can donate using PayPal at paypal.me/poetryintheboro. We also accept donations on site.
