Poetry in the Boro is super excited to be participating in our first-ever collaboration with the The Arts Center of Cannon County! Their group art show “True-ish Stories” was just begging for some true-ish poetry and stories, and we’re glad to deliver!
The event will be held Friday evening, August 7, from 6:00 to 8:00 pm at The Arts Center of Cannon County (not Murfreesboro, y’all!), which is located at 1424 John Bragg Highway in Woodbury. (It’s kind of like going to our regular hangout, the Dapper Owl, and then driving about 20 more minutes east.)
Performances of poetry and stories will be mixed in throughout the evening, with the visual artists also having an opportunity to talk about their work in the show. Although we’d love for you to stay the entire time, it’s fine to come and go.
Our poets and storytellers will include Bran Merritt, Brandy Warren, Charles Thomas, Grant Weingart, Jeanmarie Hill, Nallely Ortega Prater, Taffeta Chime, & more.
Riffing on the theme of the play currently showing at the Center August 7-22, Big Fish, True-ish Stories invites artists to explore the space where memory, imagination, and experience meet…to the stories that grow richer with time, to the moments that feel larger than life, and to the quiet journeys that shape us.
Artists have been encouraged to interpret the theme broadly. Works may reflect nostalgia, tall tales, adventure, personal history, folklore, etc. Interpretations may be literal or abstract.
