Haiku for Healing: A Community Responds to COVID-19

The impact of the pandemic is profound, complicated, and ongoing. To help our community heal and grieve, Poetry in the Boro has gathered a team of area poets to write haiku in memory of those lost to COVID-19 in Rutherford County and Middle Tennessee. Here are a couple of the first haiku written for this project:

You loved green. We loved
The bright star of your laughter.
It was always spring.

—In memory of Ann Slater, died Dec. 11, 2020

Your Marlboro voice
Singing to the deer at dusk.
Eagle feathers, flutes.

—In memory of Ric Brown, died Nov. 15, 2020

To memorialize your loved one

Please fill out this brief form to share some memories and details about someone you’ve lost to COVID-19. One of our team members will write a haiku based on the materials you provide. We will share it on our social media:

Facebook: facebook.com/poetryintheboro

Please note: On the form we provide you with a few questions to answer; PLEASE DO NOT FEEL YOU HAVE TO ANSWER THEM ALL.

Thank you for sharing your memories with us. We will do our best to honor them.
