Celebrate local poets, photographers, and visual artists with our 2023 wall calendar, produced this year in collaboration with the Rutherford Arts Alliance! This 12 x 18 (when open), full-color calendar features the creative work of more than forty area residents as well as a few far-flung friends of our community. Here’s a sample:
The calendar title, “Dreamers Awake,” is taken from a February poem of the same title by Murfreesboro resident Brandon Long. The cover image, “Circles” by Vicki Graham, is a photograph of colored pencils and their reflection on a shiny black surface.
Each month showcases one or two featured poems, a featured photo, and one or two haiku or other short form poems. Federal holidays are noted, and there’s ample space in the daily squares for notes and doodles.
Now in its third year, our vision is for this calendar to become an annual project that:
- highlights local poets and various visual artists to a wider audience, promoting the “richness of Rutherford” often touted by the Rutherford Arts Alliance and VisitRutherfordTN.com;
- pays a stipend to contributors – a move toward building the local arts economy;
- becomes self-sustaining and supports other projects of Poetry in the Boro.
This annual project is funded in part through a grant awarded to 2020-2021 Murfreesboro Poet Laureate Amie Whittemore by the Academy of American Poets Laureate Fellowship.
How many copies do you need?
We’re super excited for the calendar to reach homes, offices and businesses in Murfreesboro, Smyrna, La Vergne, Nashville, and beyond. We hope you’ll buy one for yourself, and one or more for friends and colleagues!
Wondering when your order will arrive?
We expect the calendars in-house by mid-November, and will begin distribution at a special Poetry in the Boro event scheduled for Sunday afternoon, 11/13 (more details will be posted soon). Please order early to allow for slower shipping this season.
